He discovered an issue with the car during the safety process, and told us he could not sell it to us, and returned our deposit. While we did not end up getting the car, we did get honesty, and we greatly appreciated that.

I purchased a certified used vehicle from this dealership and within two months, the exhaust system began failing, the ac had a leak, and the horn stopped working. A mechanic confirmed that the muffler had been previously welded, a patch job that should never have passed a proper safety inspection. When I brought this to the dealer's attention, I was given the runaround and told to deal with the certifying shop myself. He is refusing to help, even though this is the "independent shop" he certifies all of his vehicles with, despite describing them as the shop "where he can get a better price than other mechanics". I’ve since spoken to the Ministry of Transportation, who confirmed this issue could be grounds for a formal complaint. The car was advertised as roadworthy and certified, yet I’m now facing a $1,400 repair for something that should have been caught and dealt with before it was ever sold. And about another $600 for the AC and horn. (I bought the warranty at the time of sale and none of these issues were covered. Only about $468 dollars out of the $968 needed for the AC) Buy with caution.
Updated with reply at bottom! I called about a car for sale and drove out the next day. I asked about rust in advance and was told just normal wear and tear. When I got out there after driving an hour I found that the photos of the car had excluded a photo of the replacement fender covered in cheap spray paint that was rusting. The side of the car had overspray. When I asked if this would he fixed I was told no and that this was normal wear and tear. At this price point it was not and it explains why he had the car for at least 9 months. I wish that when I asked why he had the car for so long he had told me the truth instead of just saying it needed the right buyer. Yes I am paid by people a flat rate to take them car shopping. I do not resell anything nor do I make a commission. I take payment from the customer and don't take any gratuities nor gifts from dealers. I think my ethics are pretty solid.
